During the Russian Civil War, the Bolsheviks were surprised when some Tsarists, including General Aleksei Brusilov, collaborated with them. Lenin was reluctant to accept their help, but later said the Reds might've lost without them. Brusilov had been one of Russia's best officers in the Great War.
